RootsWeb folks have been involved since the early days of ROOTS-L and the RootsWeb Surname List, and more recently were among the founders of the RAND Genealogy Club. Genealogical discussion groups and Usenet Newsgroups

Discussion groups and mailing lists enable you to keep in touch with what others who are interested in your topic (in this case genealogy) are doing. You can share information with people who are more experienced, or help those with less experience; you can also post questions to see if anyone else is interested in what you are doing and wants to pool resources. Before you post to any listserv (i.e., mailing list), it is a good idea to read the FA page or the rules for posting so that you are not in danger of violating the rules of the listserv and annoying the other members. If the listserv offers an archive, search that first before posting a query: some listserv members become annoyed when they see the same questions being posted over and over by newcomers.

New Jersey Mailing Lists
